TAG FINALS WEEK

To Begin finals week at Tullamore we must first look at yet another successful Tag Teasers Event on Friday last in the Wolftrap, where we raised the tidy sum of €555 for the Autistic Unit in Ballinamere National School on a night that was enjoyed by all involved. The money raised will be used to support young people in the school to cover various resources that provide education in a caring and professional environment. On the night, the winning team representing the School were the “ ”, second place was the Corona’s (even if they didn’t know when Tullamore RFC was founded and third place was Brazil which was a better outcome than in the recent World Cup. There were many Tag teams represented on the night and they included, Eskimo Joes, Red Hot Killeigh Peppers, Spuds Army, Craicheads, Here for the Beer, Teaching Whistleblowers, Wolftrap Wolverines, Wolftrap’s All Grab & No Tag and Synergy, with the Questions put together by The Rejects Alma Egan & William Fitzgerald. Already we are looking forward to Tag Teasers III. We would like to thank, Jill Cobbe, Róisín Griffith, The Wolftrap, Tullamore Tag & the IRFU for the spot prizes in the raffle, Keith Claffey the Quizmaster and again the Wolftrap for their continued sponsorship of the event and for the venue.

As we enter the Final week of the Wolftrap sponsored Tag season very little has been finalised. In the Premier League, Eskimo Joes secured their Final birth with a hard fought win over reigning champions The Birr Ninjas who now need a at least a draw to join Joes in the Final. Hot on their heels are Spuds Army & The Cast Asides who will be hoping to pounce on any weakness in the Ninjas armour with the Cast Asides facing the Ninja’s they know that only a win will suffice but even at that with Spuds having a marginally better score difference, the end result of this weeks game will have a bearing on who plays where on Finals Night. Else where last years runners up and Ronnie Walsh Champions will be hoping to put 3 wins on the bounce together and are sure to have their full squad out to secure their place in the 5th v 6th place Shield Final. The Tic-Tags in their first year have had a tough summer and their outstanding performance in the grading rounds has not followed them with various injuries but two wins this week will no doubt see them lift the Bowl in the Bowl Final. Other debutants Cheerarios & The Rejects will also have their eyes on the Plate Final, but the stand out fixture this week is most definitely The Cast Asides v Birr Ninjas at 19.15.

In the Conference League, things are equally as tight and clarity again will go down to the wire this Thursday. Last years Champions were held to a great draw with a last gasp play that saw lose out on a guaranteed place in the Conference Final but a win or draw on Thursday will see them there. Although they currently stand tall at the top of the Table, it is the Wolftrap’s All Grab & No Tag that have booked their Final birth with good win over their namesake the Wolftrap Wolverines who early league form has seen them slip off the pace in the last number of weeks and will need a result against Synergy and hope that the in form Teaching Whistleblowers come unstuck when they play Red Hot Killeigh Peppers. This game is sure to have everything, with both teams looking to bring their form and momentum to gain a place in the next final up from their current standings which would be a big statement for both newcomers.

So here we are after 8 great weeks we have arrived at the final week of the Wolftrap Sponsored Tullamore Tag Rugby season and its all to play for with the Finals on Friday. We would like to wish all teams the very best this week.
