U 15s lose narrowly to Longford

UNDE R 15 MIDLAND AREA LEAGUE

Longford 17 – Tullamore 15

Tullamore travelled to Longford on Saturday last 23rd for their last Midland League match.  Not having had a match since early December it was to be expected that it would take the team a little while to get up to speed with the game.   Longford got a penalty just under the posts after 20 minutes when Tullamore were  off-side and put the first points on the board.  Tullamore stepped up to the mark and just on half time after some good rucking the ball was let out through the backs and winger Liam Varley went in under the post, Karl Dunne added the conversion.

Early in the second half Karl again stepped up and added a penalty when Longford went over the top of the ruck.   After ten minutes the home team, scored a converted try to level  the score.  Tullamore were slightly on top at this stage and when the ball was kicked forward by Oisin Cusack  amid a pile of players Micky Keogh touched down.  On this occasion the conversion was missed.  Longford upped the pressure for the last ten minutes and were camped on Tullamore’s line and despite good defending they scored a  try to level the match again and the conversion which was the last play sealed the win for the home side.
